06:29 – FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT

This powerful and deeply moving exhibition confronts the horrors of the October 7 massacre through holographic testimonies, immersive videos, and an interactive map. While exposing the depths of evil witnessed on that day, the exhibit also highlights the extraordinary resilience and solidarity shown by the citizens of Israel and Jews around the world in its aftermath.

Through the perspective of acclaimed documentary filmmakers Noam Shalev and Kobi Sitt, and the lens of renowned photographer Ziv Koren, visitors are guided on a journey from darkness to light—an emotional passage of loss, unity, and hope.

The exhibition takes visitors on an in-depth journey into the events of October 7 and the profound impact that bloody Saturday had on Israeli society.

Heartfelt Personal Testimonies
At the heart of the exhibition are powerful testimonies from brave women from different corners of Israeli society, sharing their personal experiences from October 7 and the difficult days that followed. These testimonies are presented in an innovative video format on large screens throughout the exhibition space, offering visitors a deeply intimate, face-to-face encounter with the witnesses.

Hope
Amidst the complexities, the exhibition reveals moments of hope – the light that emerges from the darkness- highlighting extraordinary acts of kindness, inspiring mutual responsibility, and the support shown by Israelis in the aftermath of the massacre. These acts of leadership serve as a powerful reminder of the Jewish people’s ability to unite in times of crisis.

Exhibition Creators
The curator of the exhibition is Malki Shem Tov, father of Omer Shem Tov, who was released from Hamas captivity on February 22, 2025, after 505 days in captivity.
The narrative of the exhibition is led by Ella Shani, a young October 7 survivor who lost her father, Itzik Shani, during the tragedy.

Documenting Israel
Featuring a striking collection of photographs curated by Anna Patricia Kahn, capturing Israeli society from before statehood to the present day. The exhibition highlights the work of 12 acclaimed photographers including Robert Capa and David “Chim” Seymour, renowned Jewish photojournalists who documented Israel’s founding years with optimism and depth. Each photograph echoes the Museum’s core values—celebrating diversity, resilience, and the importance of giving every individual a voice in Israel’s unfolding story.

Love in the Shadow of War
The photography exhibition “Love in the Shadow of War”, presents eight portraits of couples whose love stories blossomed amid the Swords of Iron War. Within a reality of fear, loss, and uncertainty, these couples found rare moments of closeness, connection, and love.

The couples photographed form a mosaic of young and old, IDF soldiers, new immigrants, a formerly religious Jew, injured and widowed. Their stories begin with a chance meeting in the lobby of a retirement home, a late-night conversation in a tank, a cigarette on the battlefield, a harrowing encounter in a safe room in the Gaza envelope with a terrorist. The exhibition features two portraits of each couple: The first captures the pain they experienced, while the second reflects their choice of love.
